Kirtan Mela Mauritius 2015

Mauritius Rivière du Rempart Cap Malheureux

First International Kirtan Mela in Mauritius

Mauritius is a very small island, 30×70 miles, more or less in the middle of nowhere, but a very Krishna conscious place and a place of natural beauty. We heard that the whole island is buzzing in anticipation of the International Kirtan Mela to be hosted there. The site is at a major crossroad, the Phoenix temple site, most of the island crosses that road on a regular basis. It has the potential of not only being an event of prayer, deepening all attendees relationship with the holy name but also great preaching for those who have not yet embraced this path.

Although the festival will be absolutely free for all the participants registration is mandatory.

The Srimad Bhagavatam describes congregational chanting of Lord Krishna’s holy names as both the panacea for all the evils in kali-yuga and the most effective and powerful devotional practice for this age. To encourage the devotees to become committed to a higher level of chanting, His Holiness Sacinandana Maharaja was inspired to start the Kirtan Mela (festival of the chanting of the holy names). This festival brings thousands of devotees to chant together for at least twelve hours a day, for three to five consecutive days. This continuous chanting or akhanda kirtan gives the devotees an opportunity to absorb their minds and hearts in the holy names, crying out to Krishna for His mercy. This nama yajna is the best of meditations and the Lord showers His devotees with blessings when they chant the holy names together in a grand Vaisnava assembly.

Oh king, constant chanting of the Holy Name of the Lord after the ways of the great authorities (harer namanukirtanam) is the doubtless and fearless way of success for all… (SB 2.1.11)
